She was a woman who lived by her own terms. Those around her often found her difficult to be, simply because she was very forthright about what she wanted and how she felt. Not once did she feel the need to fit in, because her upbringing had taught her to embrace her personality with all its quirks and eccentricities. She knew that those who resonated with her would find her irreplaceable. She was friendly and warm but with a no-nonsense mind set, and had no hesitation in calling out someone if they were being fake. She’s never thought of herself as someone who was less than those around her; she carried herself with confidence and poise, the kind that immediately demanded your attention for it was so beautiful to witness.
Embrace your confidence, know your worth and stand for your truth when you’re wearing this fun and vibrant printed modal pantsuit.
When the inhibitions are away, the cats come out to play! This beautiful collection of modal viscose separates celebrates the risk-takers, the rule-breakers, the untameable and all those who fearlessly wear their hearts on their sleeve. The vibrant colours and quirky prints are the perfect pick-me-up for your wardrobe and a must if you, like our fearless felines, believe in being your truest, most authentic self.

The start of life has no fixed moment, does it? We can never remember the first moment of our life. Much like how we can never remember the exact beginning of a dream. What about the end of life? Do we ever know whether it really ends? And, maybe dreams never end too. What if they continue in parallel universes even after we wake up? Wait. Are we on to something here? Maybe the most exciting journeys have neither a beginning nor an ending!
This bestseller at Suta will take you on a journey unto itself that will show you the high points of draping a saree. Get ready to enter a world of magic with this gorgeous made-in-heaven mul saree!
The mul cotton is what we call ‘Made in Heaven’ at Suta. Known in West Bengal as mul mul, the fabric is what can be categorised as muslin cotton. It is believed that this fine method of weaving cotton can be traced back to even before the Indus valley civilisation. What makes this fabric special is the almost magical process of weaving it. Cotton fibres are separated and spun into strong threads. The lightest and the most delicate fibres are separated and are then spun into muslin thread. These are then woven into fabrics by skilled weavers. The history of muslin weaving is a beautiful chapter in the history of Indian textiles. The process of the yore was much more complex and involved many unique tools that look primitive but worked like magic. The upper jaw of a catfish was used to initially clean the cotton before spinning. To separate the lightest fibres, a Dhunkar (a bamboo bow) was used, which when strung in a distinctive way made the lighter fibres rise above the heavier ones. This process gave the title ‘woven air’ to the muslin fabric. Weavers famously wove on looms that were at ground level and operated the looms from pits dug in the ground. Even during the Mughal era, the muslin fabric was seen as a symbol of power for its finesse. History is full of anecdotes to prove the awe that the muslin fabric generated. Emperor Aurangzeb is said to have chided his daughter Zeb-un-Nisa for appearing naked in the court when in reality she had been wearing several layers of the muslin cloth! Such was the fabric’s delicateness. The almost invisible fabric had made an Arab traveller in the 10th century remark that the degree of fineness is such that a garment can be drawn through a ring of a middling size. During the British colonisation and even during the Mughal rule, the art of weaving muslin took a hit as weavers were treated poorly and drought hit many of the weaving centres. As a result, today, the process of weaving has seen a lot of change. Nevertheless, the essence of it hasn’t changed and the charm of the fabric still remains.

The table was set and the conversation began….
The roti are perfect. You will make a good wife to a lucky boy, beamed dad.
Dad, I’m happy you like the food. But, I really feel like a manufacturer talking about a roti-maker when you say these things, I said with my eyes set on his. I waited for the outburst from his end.
He fumbled with the spoon, sipped water.

And so it began. The 2.0 of our relationship – The great part!

I was at odds with myself – why could I never fit into the confinements of the world? Why could I never belong? My thoughts led me to take a long walk by the Chilka Sarovar. It was my favourite spot and I always came here when I sought solace. That day, I gazed out into the distance, scanning the width of the lake with my eyes. This sarovar felt like an amalgamation of the entire country. It was fed by 52 different rivers. I let this thought sink in as a smile made its way to my lips. The beauty of this lake was created by the intertwined ripples of all these rivers. And, perhaps, I was the same - unlike any but made from the blend of so many.
Soak in your uniqueness in this stunning gold and black linen zari lehenga.

Dear Diary,
The day I’ve been dreaming about is finally here - I’ve made the big move to the City of Dreams. It’s a bittersweet feeling... while I’m excited for the journey ahead, it was very hard to say goodbye to everyone back home. The first thing I noticed about Mumbai is how much I sweat here. It’s so hot and humid, and it’s still spring! I have to go shopping - none of the clothes I brought with me make any sense here. I am taken aback by how small the apartments here are! My entire house is the size of my room back home. But home is so far away. It feels as though my entire life has been packed into little cardboard boxes and all those boxes placed inside a slightly bigger box. Tomorrow, I will begin unpacking. For today, I will savour the last memories of home that still linger on my jacket. The smells, the sounds, the familiar comfort of a place I’ve known my entire life. I will savour each moment of this evening and then stow them away in a faraway corner of my mind, so that I have room to make new memories. Perhaps I will learn to fall in love with Bombay just like so many others before me have. Perhaps I’ll hate it. Only time can tell. Savour old memories and make new ones when you wear this beautiful printed blue dress made of cotton.

The moon had always fascinated her. She had developed her nightly moon ritual as a young girl – while looking out at the moon through her bedroom window, she would extend her hand until her thumb would cover the moon. Then, she would jump out of bed and run to her father. “Papa, will you get me the moon?” she would ask, her eyes gleaming. “Maybe you could bring the moon home when you grow up,” he’d respond. She made those words her life’s mission. She became the first woman to set foot on the moon and made history. And now, standing at the lake’s edge, gazing the refection of the moon against the still, black waters, she knew she had done her father proud. She had dared to romance the moon.
Let your love for the moon shine through in this stunning pink lehenga, made of linen zari.

Who ascribes colours to emotions? Was red designated to wait on revelries? White on mourning, and black on agony? It made her sad to think of colours as puppets. Committed to the cause, she began to alter combinations— and wore pigments that never matched the mood of the day.
But she loved to comply on one day of the year. Sharad Purnima. It’s when the royal family greeted moonshine; celebrated white for its unalloyed elegance. While the khansamas prepared elaborate meals in chalky silver, she decked up in gossamer pink and white.
It's a rule only if it doesn’t sing to you.
Look regal in this gold silk sequined lehenga set that’s made of Chanderi silk.
Chanderi is a luxurious but lightweight fabric. Silk, cotton and zari are woven together on the warp and weft in various combinations to create different textures – the resultant fabric is visually stunning and feels exceptionally comfortable. It is no surprise then that this fabric was favoured by royalty and continues to be a hot favourite, especially for the festive season. The fabric used for this blouse is a handloom weave. The process is time and labour intensive, but adds an inimitable beauty to the fabric. Choosing handloom products enables us to support smaller weavers while keeping alive our country’s rich weaving heritage.
