Dear Diary,
The day I’ve been dreaming about is finally here - I’ve made the big move to the City of Dreams. It’s a bittersweet feeling... while I’m excited for the journey ahead, it was very hard to say goodbye to everyone back home. The first thing I noticed about Mumbai is how much I sweat here. It’s so hot and humid, and it’s still spring! I have to go shopping - none of the clothes I brought with me make any sense here. I am taken aback by how small the apartments here are! My entire house is the size of my room back home. But home is so far away. It feels as though my entire life has been packed into little cardboard boxes and all those boxes placed inside a slightly bigger box. Tomorrow, I will begin unpacking. For today, I will savour the last memories of home that still linger on my jacket. The smells, the sounds, the familiar comfort of a place I’ve known my entire life. I will savour each moment of this evening and then stow them away in a faraway corner of my mind, so that I have room to make new memories. Perhaps I will learn to fall in love with Bombay just like so many others before me have. Perhaps I’ll hate it. Only time can tell. Savour old memories and make new ones when you wear this beautiful printed blue dress made of cotton.
One of the most popular natural fibres in the world, cotton is hailed for its beauty, comfort, durability and versatility. Cotton is naturally sustainable and its cultivation supports local farmers and communities. A low maintenance fabric, cotton is also hypoallergenic, making it the perfect choice around the year, especially for the Indian climate.

It’s been three days since I’ve moved here and two since I began work. Everyone is so nice and eager to help. But they’re always so busy. People have so much to do that, sometimes, I wonder how they remember to eat or even breathe! My team decided to go out for drinks after work and they invited me too. I really wanted to go, but I was too shy. When I saw them leave, I wished I had had the courage to say yes. I decided to make the most of what was left of the evening by walking instead of taking the bus back home. This is truly a city that never sleeps! Even at 10 pm, the streets were so brightly lit that it didn’t feel any different than the day. There were people everywhere - shopping, bargaining, eating, talking or hurrying to nameless destinations to begin the next chapter of their evening. Everyone had to be somewhere, and everyone looked like they just fit into this busy city. Will I ever fit in?
Open your heart and mind to new people and new experiences when you wear this gorgeous white cotton dress.

Fine. I’ll admit it. I survived. I survived the rain. I survived the cold that followed after. I survived the day I took off work to recuperate. I survived cooking for myself. I survived takeout. I survived being alone. I survived the lows. But what I’ve come to realise is that I’ve done more than survived. I’ve thrived. I’ve carved my own identity. I’ve realised I like the sea more than the mountains. I’ve learned to cook. I’ve taken up art classes. I love the organised chaos that comes with living in a city so vast and so anonymous. I’ve learned to be content with my place in the sun. I’ve learned to love life, every minute of it. And I fall a little deeper in love with the person I’m becoming, every day.
Turn a new leaf and embrace all the exciting things that await you when you’re clad in this multi-coloured cotton dress.
The mul cotton is what we call ‘made in heaven’ at Suta. Known in West Bengal as mul mul, the fabric is buttery soft and delicately beautiful. The weave of this fabric is very fine, and this lends a very fluid texture to it that makes draping it a breeze. It is truly like a hug that wraps you in its love!

Do you know how whenever you watch a movie or a show that’s set in Mumbai, they invariably include a clip about the famous local trains? Well, today I decided to take the ultimate test that all true Mumbaikars must go through - I took the train. But before that, I did my research. It turns out that afternoons work the best, followed by late at night to beat the crowds. So, at 9 pm, I bought myself a round ticket to the farthest station from my house and hopped on. I have to admit that, at first, I was a little sceptical. I mean, what could possibly be special about a train ride? How different would it be to any other mode of public transport? But as the journey progressed, I realised that my train compartment was its own ecosystem. It had witnessed the formation of many new friendships, seen many tempers flare and subside, and the beginning and end of many stories. Many hopefuls had taken this same train to important interviews, many lovers to reach their soulmates, many to their ailing loved ones that needed them urgently, many to their places of work, worship and rest. Similarly, my story would find its place amongst the many clothes, woven into a seamless collage of old and new.
